NikeLab Chicago Re-Creation Center c/o Virgil Abloh
New things are always opening on N. Michigan Ave. On my walk from the train to work, I saw this new storefront next to the Nike store. After seeing Virgil Abloh’s name, I instantly knew it was a piece of gold.
I discovered they were opening a NikeLab Chicago Re-Creation Center c/o Virgil Abloh. I was excited.
As I walked in, the first thing that caught my attention was the material of the wall. After a closer look, the walls were made of shredded Nike sneakers!
My first question was ”who is doing this?!”
My second question was ”why are we doing this?!”
Still confused, I entered the main showroom displaying some amazing Nike mech and marketing.
In my side view, I saw a coloring table that I obviously moved to. At the table, the Nike Re-Creation Project was introduced to the guests. We learned that Nike was joining the wave of repurposing. Sneakers are being used to create pieces of furniture and other items.
With NBA All-Star Weekend 2020 coming up in Chicago, Nike c/o Virgil Abloh is using shredded sneaker materials to build a basketball court in a low-income neighborhood in Chicago.
Guests can bring in old Nike sneakers and shredded them on site.
Even if you are not into sneakers, they have an amazing coloring selection with Big Sean coloring pages.
It will be closing soon, so definitely check it out!
p.s. if you don't live in Chicago, check out the Nike app to find a donation center in your area.
